🚙 About The Route

The Agiofaraggo – Vathi Beach route is the best way to see the two most southern beaches of the South coast of Crete.

Route Highlights:

🌄 Starting Point: Matala at 9am

We drive through the villages of Sivas and Listaros to get to the historical Monastery of Odigitria, a monk monastery which dates back to the 14th century. There you will be able to look around the picturesque property which is connected to a part of history during the Turkish occupation since it was a base for rebels.

After a look around the monastery, we start our off-road safari as we head for the well known Agiofaraggo Beach. To get to Agiofaraggo Beach, we make a short, easy walk of 20 minutes through the protected Gorge of Saints.

On the way, we’ll get to see lots of goats, some showing off their acrobatic mountain-climbing skills. We’ll also see the church of Agios Antonios built in the 14th century and the impressive cave church which not everybody knows about!

🌊 Destination: Agiofaraggo Beach
You’ll have plenty of time to swim in the crystal clear waters of Agiofaraggo Beach, relax on the beach and whoever wants to be more adventurous can make the 20 minute hike up the hill to see the ‘lake’ which has been naturally formed under the rocks and from where you can get a panoramic view of the beach.

🌊 Destination: Vathi Beach
After your swim, we head to the village of Sivas where we’ll have lunch in the best traditional taverna. After lunch, we will continue our way across the coast on an extra off-road journey to the secluded beach of Vathi. Vathi Beach is in a cove so it is sheltered by the wind and is nearly always calm. Due to the rough road, access is difficult in a normal vehicle which makes it a much quieter beach. There will be plenty of time to enjoy the beach and swim. before heading back to our pick-up point .

🌅 Return Journey: We head back to Matala at approximately 6pm.
